CBSE vs ICSE Board for School Education

A topic that often leaves parents and students scratching their heads – CBSE vs. ICSE boards. It’s a decision that can shape your educational journey, so let’s break it down.

Historical Background

CBSE
The first education board to be set up in India was the Uttar Pradesh Board of High School and Intermediate Education in 1921, which was under jurisdiction of Rajputana, Central India and Gwalior. In 1929, the government of India set up a joint Board named Board of High School and Intermediate Education. This included Ajmer, Merwara, Central India, and Gwalior. Later it was confined to AjmerBhopal and Vindhya Pradesh. We have seen that in the year 1952, an amendment was made in the Board Constitution by which its authority was extended
to
Part C or Part D territories or the Board was named Central Board of Secondary Education.
Finally in the year 1962 the Board was reconstituted with the main motive being to provide high
quality education to the needy people or to serve the children whose parents are in government jobs or who are getting transferred from time to time.

 ICSE
Starting from the year 1952, a conference was organized in the year 1952 which was named All India Certificate Examinations Conference and its chairman was the then education minister Abul Kalam AzadIts main objective after independence was to replace The Cambridge School Certificate Examination with an Indian version of examination and from this it was proposed to create a Council for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education.
After this, in 1956, the meeting of Inter-State Board for Anglo-Indian Education accepted this proposal and an Indian Council got permission to run the Cambridge examination.
Therefore, council was started and first meeting was held on 3 November 1958.
In December 1967, the Council was registered as a society.
In 1973, the Council was listed in the parliamentary act as a registered body for conducting public exams in India.
